Map Help

The purpose of this screen is let you see the area that you have included in your report. The screen provides some basic functionality to enable you to navigate round the map.

If you wish to go to the Results table, you can press the 'Table' Button.

The functions available to you are:

The Map Tool Box - Run the cursor over each of the tools to see a brief description of their function

  • Zoom Bar - This can be used to go directly to different map scales.
  • Zoom - This tool is set as the default when you enter the page – simply clicking on the map zooms you in to a larger scale. Use this tool to interactively define where you want to zoom to on the map. You can also define a specific square on the map by dragging the mouse.
  • Information - Use this tool to click on selected (shaded) areas of the map to find out their name and indicator value.
  • Print - Use this tool to create a printer-friendly page including the map, the legend and various supporting information. Then use the standard Print option on the Browser File menu to send the page to your printer.
  • Display Labels - Use this tool to show/hide labels on the map. Note that the labels will only appear on the map when there is sufficient space to show them. If the labels do not appear then zoom in further using either the zoom bar or the zoom in tool.
  • Pan Arrows Use the Arrows located around the map to change the area you are viewing.

Show/Hide Background This allows you to either view or hide the background contextual mapping. As you zoom into the map different contextual backgrounds will be displayed. These are chosen to be appropriate to the scale at which you are viewing the map. For a map showing a large amount of Scotland, the background is simply a shading in of Scotland and as you zoom in, the map will cover smaller areas in more detail.

Display Additional layers You can add display-only layers to the map if you wish. However areas are not selectable for any of these map layers - they are simply for display purposes. This means you can, for example, see how Data Zone boundaries relate to a Local Authority boundary. It is very useful in allowing you to select all areas within a larger area.
